Just a day before the start of the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh team has been dealt a blow as key all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has come down with a fever.

According to sources within the team management, Miraz missed the team's first practice session in Sri Lanka due to illness. His condition is currently being closely monitored by the medical staff.

Miraz, a vital figure in Bangladesh’s Test squad and recently named captain of the ODI team, is also the vice-captain for the Test side. His absence would be a significant setback, especially with the first Test set to be played at the spin-friendly Galle International Stadium starting June 17.

Known for his effectiveness on turning tracks, Miraz’s availability could prove crucial for Bangladesh’s bowling attack. Team officials remain hopeful he will recover in time to take the field.

The Bangladesh team is scheduled for a second training session on Monday (June 16).
