Miraz hospitalised after historic series win over Australia
In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, Bangladesh triumphed over Australia by 5 wickets in the second ODI at Mirpur, sealing a landmark series victory—their first ever against the Australians in ODI cricket with a match still to play. The team’s monumental win, however, was overshadowed by alarming news as captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was hospitalized following the match.
The drama unfolded when Miraz was struck on the helmet by a bouncer from an Australian fast bowler during his innings. Despite the blow, he showcased remarkable courage, continuing to play and even smashing a key six to secure the historic win for his team. Yet, once back in the dressing room, his condition deteriorated, leading the management to take immediate action.
In a statement released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, physiotherapist Baizidul Islam detailed the incident: “Miraz experienced what appeared to be a concussion during the match. After assessing his condition, he played on. However, following the game, we decided to send him to Evercare Hospital for observation and scans. He will be monitored for the next 24 hours.”
