Miraz, Taskin dig in as Bangladesh stretch lead to 219 in Darwin

Bangladesh continued to dominate Australia on the third morning of the Darwin Test, extending their first-innings lead to 219 runs by lunch as Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed mounted a stubborn resistance.

Bangladesh went to lunch at 417 for 8, with Miraz unbeaten on 65 and Taskin on 12. The visitors now hold a commanding advantage after dismissing Australia for just 198 in the first innings.

Miraz, who resumed the day unbeaten on 32, reached his 12th Test half-century from 117 balls, striking five boundaries. His fifty was greeted by applause from the Bangladesh dressing room as the all-rounder continued to anchor the innings.

The milestone also made Miraz only the third Bangladesh batter to score a half-century in Australia in the ongoing innings. He had earlier impressed with a century against a Cricket Australia XI in the tour match, further underlining his growing influence with the bat.

Taskin provided valuable support at the other end. He brought up Bangladesh's 400 with a boundary off Pat Cummins, which also pushed the lead beyond 200. Australia were handed a chance to break the partnership off the following delivery, but Steve Smith could not hold on to a slip catch.
Bangladesh began the third day on 351 for 6 but lost Hasan Mahmud and Taijul Islam within the opening hour. Miraz and Taskin then dug in to frustrate the Australian attack and strengthen Bangladesh's grip on the Test.

With two wickets remaining and a lead of 219 runs already secured, Bangladesh are now in a strong position to set Australia a formidable target and put themselves within sight of a memorable result in Darwin.
