Miraz wants to bring Mushfiqur back to ODIs
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is feeling the lack of experience quite well after taking over the leadership of the Bangladesh ODI team. He feels that the team has become largely without guardians after the retirement of two senior cricketers Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim. Therefore, Miraz has expressed his interest in getting Shakib Al Hasan along with Mushfiqur in the team again.
Miraz believes that these two experienced cricketers still have the ability to play until the 2027 ODI World Cup. He is especially impressed by Mushfiqur's fitness. He said that he has also discussed this with Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam Bulbul. He has also received positive indications from there.
However, reality says that it is not easy to bring Shakib back to the team. Since his return to the country is uncertain due to political reasons, the chances of him returning to international cricket are also slim.
Although Miraj believes that having a world-class all-rounder like Shakib in the team will increase its strength many times over. He said, 'I want Shakib Bhai not for one or two matches, but for the World Cup. His presence will take the team to another level.'
On the other hand, there is no such obstacle in the case of Mushfiqur. Although he has retired from T20 and ODI, he is still playing Tests and is also under the central contract of the BCB. If the team management wants, this wicketkeeper-batsman has the opportunity to break his retirement and return to the ODI team.
Miraz believes that having an experienced cricketer like Mushfiqur in the team will restore balance. In his words, "If he is in the team, he can guide like a guardian. His fitness and experience are both extraordinary."
However, this initiative is still at an informal stage. There has been no detailed discussion on this with the coaching staff or the selection panel. Along with the consent of the BCB and team management, Mushfiqur's own interest is also important here.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar said that there has been no discussion about Mushfiqur yet. He said, since Mushfiqur has retired from ODIs, we have not thought about the matter. What he wants himself is the most important thing.
