Mirpur to host 32-team Under-18 cricket showdown
Mirpur’s City Club is set to host the second edition of the City Club Academy Cup Under-18 Cricket Tournament, with 32 teams competing for the title as organisers seek to provide a platform for emerging young cricketers.
The tournament will begin on October 4 at the City Club ground in Mirpur, with registration open until September 30.
Organised under the theme of developing the next generation of cricket stars, the competition will give Under-18 players an opportunity to test their skills in competitive matches and put themselves in contention for higher-level cricket.
The champions will receive Tk 100,000 along with a trophy and medals, while the runners-up will get Tk 50,000, a trophy and medals. The Player of the Match in each game will receive Tk 2,000 and a crest.
The tournament’s best batter and best bowler will each receive Tk 4,000 and a crest, while the best fielder will receive Tk 2,000 and a crest.
Teams will have to pay an entry fee of Tk 30,000 to participate. Matches will also be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube, allowing cricket fans to follow the performances of the young players.
City Club, a long-standing cricket institution in Mirpur, has been involved in developing players and organising competitive events since 1972. The tournament is being staged as part of its continued efforts to nurture young talent with the support of experienced coaches, match officials and sports organisers.
