Missing Arizona teen found alive after 32 years
A teenage girl who went missing in 1994 in the US state of Arizona has been found alive more than three decades later, marking a major breakthrough in a long-unsolved cold case.
According to media reports, the girl—identified as Christina Marie Plante—was 13 years old when she disappeared. Now 44, she was recently located alive, local authorities confirmed this week.
Police said Plante went missing on May 15, 1994, after leaving her home in the Payson–Star Valley area to visit a nearby horse stable. She was never seen again, and the case was classified as a suspicious disappearance.
Despite extensive search efforts involving law enforcement, volunteers, and local residents at the time, no significant leads were found, and the case remained unsolved for years.
However, it was never formally closed and was later assigned to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit.
Authorities recently reopened the investigation using modern technology and updated investigative methods. Progress was made after refreshing her profile in national missing persons databases and appealing for new information.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said Plante has been identified and confirmed alive after 32 years. Further details about her current situation have not been disclosed to protect her privacy.
The development highlights the growing role of advanced technology in solving cold cases, following a similar case last month in North Carolina where a woman missing for nearly 25 years was also found alive.
