Missing man's body found inside septic tank of in-law's house
The body of Abdul Karim Bhuiyan, 52, who had been missing for a month, was recovered from the septic tank of his father-in-law’s house in Rasulpur Union of Debidwar upazila. The discovery was made in the early hours of Wednesday, September 17, around 3:30am.
Abdul Karim went missing on August 13 after leaving his home, saying he was going to Khormpur Mazar area. When he failed to return, his elder brother Amir Hossain Bhuiyan filed a missing person report at the Debidwar police station on August 16.
According to police and local sources, an anonymous phone call to Abdul Karim’s elder brother on Wednesday night revealed that Karim had been killed by his in-laws and his body was hidden. Acting on this tip, Amir Hossain Bhuiyan, accompanied by police officers, visited the father-in-law’s house, where the body was discovered inside the septic tank after a thorough search.
Officer-in-Charge Shamsuddin Mohammad Ilyas and ASP Mohammad Shahin arrived at the scene to recover the body. At the time of the recovery, two brothers-in-law, Mozammel and Israfill, along with Abdul Karim’s wife Taslima Akter and their two sons, Tanvir and Touhid, were detained for questioning.
Amir Hossain Bhuiyan demanded the death penalty for those responsible for his brother’s murder.
The police have sent the body to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case has been filed and investigation is ongoing.
