Australian authorities have cancelled the visa of Bangladeshi Islamic preacher Mizanur Rahman Azhari and directed him to leave the country, according to media reports on Wednesday (April 1).

A report by the Daily Mail said Azhari was in Australia as part of a lecture series titled “Legacy of Faith,” with events scheduled in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra.

His visa was revoked on Tuesday while the process was ongoing, and he is now in the process of departing the country.

Australian Liberal Senator Jonathan Duniam told parliament that several groups had raised concerns about Azhari’s visit and warned lawmakers beforehand.

He also alleged that the preacher had faced accusations in different countries over controversial remarks.

The report added that Azhari had previously drawn criticism, including during a 2023 event in the United States, where some of his comments were accused of being antisemitic.

His past speeches in other countries have also sparked controversy, according to the report.
