Mobile banking to be monitored to prevent vote buying: EC Sanaullah
Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has said mobile banking transactions will be monitored in every constituency during the upcoming election to prevent vote buying. He said assistant returning officers have been instructed to take swift action if unusual transactions are detected through mobile banking agents during specific periods from February 8.
He made the remarks on Monday afternoon, January 26, at a meeting with law enforcement cells and vigilance and observation teams at the conference room of the Chandpur deputy commissioner’s office.
The election commissioner said there would be no pressure from the government in the election process. He stressed that transparency, neutrality and firmness must be ensured in conducting the polls. He added that six Election Commission committees are working at the field level, with authority to conduct investigations and judicial proceedings.
On the issue of the referendum, Sanaullah said voters must be encouraged to participate. Through ‘yes’ or ‘no’ votes, voters will be able to express their opinions on shaping the future of Bangladesh.
The meeting, organised by the district administration, was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Nazmul Islam Sarkar. Officials from various departments involved in election duties were present.
