Mobile phone traders block road in front of Jamuna Future Park

Mobile phone traders blocked the road in front of Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka on Tuesday, December 2, protesting the government’s plan to launch the National Equipment Identity Register on December 16.

The blockade began around 11:45am, halting traffic on part of the road and causing a long tailback from Kuril Bishwa Road to Rampura.

Traders said they had repeatedly demanded talks with the government before the NEIR launch, but received no response. The Mobile Business Community Bangladesh has therefore begun protests, with Jamuna Future Park traders joining today’s blockade.
