Mobile traders block road in Karwan Bazar

Mobile traders blocked the road at SAARC Fountain intersection in Karwan Bazar on Wednesday December 10, demanding reforms to the National Equipment Identity Register NEIR, cancellation of the monopolistic syndicate and permission for open import of mobile phones.

The demonstration began at around 5.40pm after the traders occupied the road, causing severe disruption for commuters. Some vehicles were also reportedly vandalised during the incident.

Assistant Commissioner of Tejgaon zone, Mohammad Akkas Ali, said that traffic movement in the area came to a complete halt due to the blockade.
