Modi calls for Mamata’s removal from West Bengal
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a strong call to oust the ruling Trinamool Congress ahead of the upcoming West Bengal assembly election.
He made the call on Saturday afternoon, January 17, while addressing the BJP-organised ‘Paribartan Sankalp Janasabha’ at a ground adjacent to the Sahapur–Malda bypass in Malda.
In his speech, Modi confidently declared that West Bengal would follow the path of Odisha, Tripura, Assam and Bihar by choosing the BJP. He expressed optimism that the BJP would end Trinamool rule in Bengal in 2026, establish good governance and usher in rapid development. Details of his aggressive election campaign were highlighted in a report by Anandabazar.
Modi accused the Trinamool government of building a mountain of corruption and said it was fundamentally an enemy of the poor. He alleged that central government welfare schemes, including free electricity and the Ayushman Bharat healthcare programme, were being blocked from implementation in the state.
He further claimed that funds sent by the Centre were being looted through Trinamool leaders and activists instead of reaching ordinary people. Emphasising his point, Modi said people of Bengal had grown weary of Trinamool misrule and asserted that the ‘real change’ in the state would begin from the Malda rally.
Claiming a severe deterioration in law and order, Modi also strongly condemned attacks on journalists. Referring to an incident in which a private television channel’s journalist and cameraman were attacked on their way to the rally, he said Trinamool’s hooliganism would no longer be tolerated.
Describing infiltration as West Bengal’s biggest challenge, Modi said even many developed countries were now expelling infiltrators. He alleged that appeasement politics had disrupted demographic balance in the state and fuelled violence in areas including Malda and Murshidabad. Modi warned that a BJP government would take major administrative measures to stop infiltration.
