Modi to visit White House in February, says Trump

US President Donald Trump has said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit the United States in February for a meeting at the White House. According to a Bloomberg report, Modi will be the first foreign leader to visit Washington since the US president was sworn in.

Sitting on Air Force One, the US president's private jet, Trump told reporters that he had a "very good conversation" with Modi on Monday morning (January 27). Modi is likely to visit the White House next month.

The US president made these remarks in response to reporters' questions about what he had talked about on the phone with Modi. Trump said that we have a very good relationship with India.

Earlier, the White House issued a statement on the phone call between Modi and Trump. The statement said that President Trump had a "productive conversation" with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders discussed expanding and deepening cooperation between India and the United States. They also discussed many regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific region, the Middle East and Europe.

The statement added that President Trump emphasized the importance of increasing India's purchases of American-made security equipment and moving towards a fairer trade relationship between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plans for a White House visit. They emphasized the importance of a strong friendly and strategic relationship between the United States and India.

The White House statement added that Modi-Trump also emphasized their commitment to advancing the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership and the Indo-Pacific Quad Partnership.

India is hosting its first-ever Quad Summit later this year.
