Mominul surpasses Tamim to become Bangladesh's second-highest Test run-scorer

Mominul Haque has moved up to second place in the list of highest run-scorers for Bangladesh in Test cricket, surpassing Tamim Iqbal. The left-handed batter reached the milestone on the first day of the first Test against Australia in Darwin. At the end of the day, he remained unbeaten on 35 off 49 balls, with five fours.

Mominul's 32nd run pushed him past Tamim. His tally now stands at 5,166 runs in 146 innings across 79 Tests, with an average of 38.26. He has 13 centuries and 28 half-centuries to his name. Tamim, on the other hand, scored 5,134 runs in 134 innings over 70 Tests, averaging 38.39 with 10 centuries and 31 fifties.

Mominul now only trails Mushfiqur Rahim in Bangladesh's Test run-scoring list. Mushfiqur has 6,806 runs in 190 innings from 104 Tests, averaging 39.11 with 14 centuries and 29 half-centuries. Shakib Al Hasan is in fourth place with 4,609 runs from 71 Tests, while Litton Das occupies fifth place with 3,356 runs.

The day was not only special for Mominul personally, but also for Bangladesh as a team. Hasan Mahmud's brilliant bowling saw Australia bundled out for 198 in their first innings, with Hasan claiming six wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh finished the day on 96 for 1. Sadman Islam departed for 20, but Mominul remained unbeaten on 35. Bangladesh still trail Australia by 102 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Mominul now has the opportunity to build on his innings and further extend his lead over Tamim, while setting his sights on surpassing Mushfiqur Rahim at the top of the list.
