Morocco secured their place in the World Cup last 16 after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands in the Round of 32. After a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, Morocco triumphed 3-2 in the shootout. Despite falling behind to Cody Gakpo's goal, Issa Diop's last-minute equaliser and composure from the spot sent the African side through.

The first half ended goalless, with Morocco dominating possession and tempo. They created several chances but could not find a way past the Dutch defence.

The breakthrough came in the 72nd minute when Gakpo finished clinically from inside the box to give the Netherlands a 1-0 lead. It seemed the Dutch were on their way to victory.

But in the first minute of stoppage time, Issa Diop scored a dramatic equaliser to send the match into extra time. Neither side could find a winner in the additional 30 minutes.

In the penalty shootout, Morocco held their nerve while the Netherlands faltered under pressure. Morocco won 3-2 to secure a place in the last 16.

Statistics reflected Morocco's dominance throughout the match. They had 70 per cent possession, 12 shots with 6 on target, compared to the Netherlands' 7 shots with 3 on target. Morocco completed 780 passes with 92 per cent accuracy, while the Netherlands managed 356 passes with 81 per cent accuracy.

Morocco's persistence, control and fighting spirit paid off as they advanced to the last 16, while the Netherlands bowed out of the World Cup in disappointment.
