Mossadek marks his return with brilliant 86-run knock
After four years away from the ODI side, Mossadek Hossain Saikat made a stunning return with the bat. In a moment of crisis, the all-rounder played a responsible and aggressive innings to give Bangladesh a competitive total. His unbeaten 86 runs propelled Bangladesh to 284 for 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
After losing the toss and batting first at Mirpur, Bangladesh suffered an early blow with opener Saif Hasan departing for just 5 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto then joined Tanzid Hasan Tamim to repair the innings, building a 96-run partnership for the second wicket.
Tamim departed for 54, but Shanto continued his innings, registering his 12th ODI fifty before being dismissed for 67. Liton Das fell for only 7 runs, putting Bangladesh under pressure.
Tawhid Hridoy and Mossadek Hossain then formed a crucial 75-run partnership to rescue the team. Hridoy scored 31 off 51 balls, but Mossadek held firm at one end.
While other middle-order batters failed, Mossadek stood unbeaten, scoring his fourth ODI fifty and his career-best innings of 86 off 70 balls, studded with several exquisite boundaries and attacking shots. His previous highest ODI score was 52.
Taskin Ahmed provided valuable support, scoring an unbeaten 20 off 16 balls, adding crucial runs at the death.
Among Australian bowlers, Nathan Ellis took three wickets, while Matt Renshaw and Liam Scott claimed two each, and Xavier Bartlett took one.
Mossadek's return innings is not only a relief for Bangladesh but also a memorable comeback for his personal career.
