Mother becomes marathon champion in saree to bear daughter’s education cost

Ramabai Ranveer, 47, a mother from Ambajogai in Maharashtra of India, has set a unique example by taking part in a marathon to bear the cost of her daughter’s education. Wearing a saree and running barefoot, she left behind several young competitors and finished first in the competition.

This marathon named ‘Amrit Daud’ was organized on the occasion of the Amrit Mahotsav of Kholeshwar Educational Complex of Bharatiya Shiksha Prasarak Sanstha in Beed district of India. The race started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and ended at Bhagyanagar Chowk. Many local young men and women took part in it.

Like everyone else, Ramabai also took part in the race wearing an ordinary saree and slippers. However, after going some distance, her slippers kept coming off her feet repeatedly on the uneven road. As this slowed down her speed, she picked up the two slippers in her hands without wasting any more time.

After that, Ramabai started running barefoot ignoring the stones and rough path. Ignoring the pain in her feet, she started leaving the young competitors behind one by one. Finally, this mother reached the finishing line ahead of everyone and became the winner of the marathon.

An emotional atmosphere was created among the spectators and organizers present after seeing Ramabai’s fight and success. Her victory has become an example that age, clothes or footwear cannot stand as an obstacle in front of willpower.

Ramabai has received 3,000 rupees as prize for finishing first in the marathon. However, she has decided not to spend that money on herself and to spend the entire amount on her daughter’s education. She wants to hand over the prize money for that goal with the determination of securing her daughter’s future.
