Taapsee Pannu, 39, Bollywood actress, is returning to the action genre once again. After ‘Baby’ in 2015 and ‘Naam Shabana’ in 2017, she will be seen in a different character in the new action film ‘Gandhari’. Directed by Debashish Makhija, the film is scheduled for release on 3 September.

Taapsee has played the character of Bani in ‘Gandhari’. The story of the film revolves around a mother who takes up the fight against all kinds of obstacles and adversities to protect her child. Written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, the film has already generated interest among audiences.

In an interview given to PTI at the Jagran Film Festival in Delhi, Taapsee said that she had long been receiving requests from audiences to return to action films. However, the rigorous physical preparation and hard work required for performing in such characters had held her back all this time.

Taapsee also said that although she shows violence on screen in action scenes, she does not like violence in her personal life. In the films she has acted in, often due to the absence of big-budget technical facilities, she has to perform a large part of the action scenes herself. Instead of face replacement or large-scale green-screen technology, doing real action has put her in physically quite difficult situations, she said.

However, for ‘Gandhari’ Taapsee did not want to repeat her previous action characters. Rather, she has tried to present action scenes on a larger scale this time, she informed. The actress also expects that audiences will enjoy the film more than her earlier action works.

Ishwak Singh, Mita Vashisht, Jatin Sarna, Swastika Mukherjee and Chhaya Kadam have acted alongside Taapsee in the film. Those involved believe that a mother’s deep bond for her child, the fight to protect the child and the action emerging through that fight will become one of the main attractions of ‘Gandhari’.
