Mufti Mamunur Rashid Qasemi, founder of the shari‘ah-based ideal marriage bureau and consultant platform Ideal Marriage Bureau, has been arrested. He was taken into custody from his home in Atibazar, Dhaka, at about 3pm on Sunday, November 23. Keraniganj Model police station superintendent Monirul Haq confirmed the arrest to the media. The officer said that Qasemi was arrested today in connection with a case filed two days earlier by Anna Parvin, the complainant and maternal aunt of Tamanna Hatun, Qasemi’s wife. The case was registered at Keraniganj police station under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act, and Qasemi is currently being held in police custody at Keraniganj.

শরীয়াহ ভিত্তিক আদর্শ নিকাহ (বিবাহ) ব্যুরো ও কনসালটেন্ট প্ল্যাটফর্ম ‘আইডিয়াল ম্যারেজ ব্যুরো’র প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মুফতি মামুনুর রশিদ কাসেমীকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। রোববার (২৩ নভেম্বর) বিকাল ৩টার দিকে ঢাকার আটিবাজারের বাসা থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। কেরানীগঞ্জ মডেল থানার ওসি মনিরুল হক গণমাধ্যমকে এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছেন। ওসি জানান, গত পরশু কাসেমীর স্ত্রী তামান্না হাতুনের পক্ষে তার মামি আন্না পারভীন বাদী হয়ে কেরানীগঞ্জ থানায় নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন আইনে একটি মামলা করেছিলেন। সেই মামলায় আজ তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। বর্তমানে কেরানীগঞ্জ থানায় পুলিশ হেফাজতে আছেন কাসেমী।
