Musiala collapsed on the pitch twice in four days
Bayern Munich star midfielder Jamal Musiala has collapsed suddenly on the pitch twice within just four days. The 23-year-old German midfielder was first affected against Leipzig and then in a pre-season friendly against Heidenheim, raising concerns about his health .
Initially, doctors suspected a neurological problem, but further examinations identified Musiala's condition as 'absence seizures' – a type of epilepsy or seizure disorder. The German news agency DPA confirmed this information. According to the Mayo Clinic, absence seizures involve brief, sudden lapses of consciousness, often causing a person to stare blankly into space for a few seconds before quickly returning to alertness .
Musiala has stated that this neurological issue is responsible for his collapse in the two recent matches. However, experts believe there is no additional health risk from the condition. The 23-year-old said, "I want to deal with this challenge by staying in regular contact with specialists. The most important thing for me is to live a normal life and maintain my love for football."
Bayern Munich also released a statement confirming that Musiala had to be taken off the pitch minutes into a game due to an unexpected physical issue, and that the club is continuing his medical treatment and monitoring.
