Myanmar military airstrike on Rakhine hospital kills 31
At least 31 people were killed and 68 injured when Myanmar’s military launched an airstrike on Mrauk-U General Hospital in Rakhine state, near the Bangladesh border, local aid workers confirmed to AFP.
The strike, carried out on Wednesday evening (December 10), comes amid a nationwide escalation by the military ahead of elections, aiming to regain control over rebel-held regions.
Ten patients were reportedly killed on the spot, while victims’ bodies were laid outside the hospital, covered in white sheets.
No official statement has been issued by the military junta.
Aid workers warned the death toll could rise further as rescue and medical efforts continue.
Rakhine remains predominantly under the Arakan Army’s (AA) control, a group actively resisting the civilian administration of Aung San Suu Kyi.
