Nabi ends Shakib's 1739-day reign to become No.1 ODI all-rounder
Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi ended Shakib Al Hasan's historic reign to claim the coveted number one ODI all-rounder spot in the latest ICC Rankings, which was released on February 14.
Nabi's remarkable fighting century against Sri Lanka in Pallekele propelled him to the top of the rankings at 39 years and one-month-old, surpassing Tillkaratne Dilshan's previous record as the oldest top-ranked ODI all-rounder.
Nabi's compatriots Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were the former Afghanistan players who have also graced the top of the ICC rankings in various categories. Rashid had topped the ODI and T20I bowling and ODI all-rounder charts before and Mujeeb was previously ranked as the No.1 T20I bowler.
Meanwhile, Shakib's impressive tenure, spanning 1,739 consecutive days since May 7, 2019, and totalling over 11 and a half years at the summit, has been a record-breaking one in the ODI all-rounder rankings. Shakib had recently withdrawn from the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka due to an eye issue.
