In a major step towards ensuring equal access to digital services, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has announced a uniform broadband internet tariff across the country.

The new pricing structure, set to take effect from July 1, 2025, will significantly reduce monthly broadband fees for consumers.

Under the revised rates, customers will pay Tk 400 per month for a 5 Mbps connection, Tk 700 for a 10 Mbps connection, and Tk 1,100 for a 20 Mbps connection. These rates will be applied uniformly across all regions of Bangladesh, including metropolitan cities, districts, upazilas, and unions, ensuring that all internet users, regardless of location, pay the same amount.

The BTRC stated that this pricing policy will remain in effect for five years, until a new tariff is announced. All internet service providers (ISPs), both government and private, are mandated to follow these rates, and they must display them on BTRC-approved websites.

Additionally, the BTRC has introduced a new ‘Grade of Service’ system to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain service quality. The system provides discounts for service disruptions. If a customer's internet service is disconnected for five consecutive days, they will receive a 50% discount on that month's bill. If the disconnection lasts for ten days, a 75% discount will apply, and for disconnections lasting 15 days or more, the customer will receive a full waiver for that month's bill.

The regulatory body has made it clear that any ISP offering additional services or charging fees beyond the approved tariff will face penalties.
