Nazmul, Tanzid climb to career-best rankings after historic Darwin win
Bangladesh cricketers have made significant leaps in the Test rankings following their historic victory over Australia in the Darwin Test. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto has risen to a career-best 20th position. Tanzid Hasan and Hasan Mahmud have also made major gains. Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head has lost the top spot in Test batting rankings after failing against Bangladesh.
Nazmul played a fine innings of 84 in the first innings of the Darwin Test. The Bangladesh captain, who got only one opportunity to bat in the match, climbed nine places to reach a career-best 20th position. However, in the latest Test batting rankings, Nazmul is not Bangladesh’s top batter. Mushfiqur Rahim remains eight rating points ahead of him in 18th place. Mushfiqur, who played his 104th Test in Darwin, saw no change in his ranking.
Mominul Haque also advanced five places to 31st. Sadman Islam moved up three spots to 58th, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz climbed five places to 59th.
The biggest leap came from Tanzid Hasan. The opener, who scored a century in the first innings of the Darwin Test, jumped 84 places to 88th after only his second Test.
Travis Head lost the top position in the Test batting rankings after scores of 22 and 17 against Bangladesh. The Australian batter slipped three places to fourth.
Following Head’s fall, England’s Harry Brook claimed the top spot. After Brook, who began the Test at Headingley, England captain Joe Root is in second place, with Australia’s Steve Smith in third. Head remains fourth, trailing Brook by just 33 rating points.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who did not play in the Galle Test, retained the top position in the Test bowling rankings. Among Bangladesh bowlers, Taijul Islam remains the highest-ranked. The left-arm spinner stays in 11th place as before.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took five wickets in Australia’s second innings, climbed three places to 24th.
Hasan Mahmud was named player of the match after taking a total of nine wickets in the Darwin Test. The pacer, who claimed six wickets in the first innings and three in the second, jumped 26 places to a career-best 38th position.
Taskin Ahmed moved up one place to 49th, while fellow pacer Ebadot Hossain advanced four spots to 82nd.
In the all-rounder rankings, Miraz remains in third place as before. India’s Ravindra Jadeja tops this list.
