NBR orders use of new BIN by November 30
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has directed the use of Business Identification Numbers (BIN) transferred as part of the reorganisation of VAT commissionerates. To this end, all activities under the old BIN must be completed by November 30.
The NBR issued the directive in a press release on Monday.
The NBR said new commissionerates have been formed by redefining the jurisdictions of VAT commissionerates to expand the tax net, increase revenue collection and provide better services to taxpayers. Through this, the indirect tax system is being made more effective and modern.
As a result of the reorganisation, the BINs of many establishments have been transferred to new jurisdictions. In this case, only the last four digits of the BIN have been changed, which carry the identity of the relevant VAT commissionerate and division. However, other registration-related information of the establishment will remain unchanged.
To avoid any disruption in import-export activities, both old and new BINs have been kept active in the Customs ASYCUDA World system for now. Therefore, letters of credit (LCs), bills of entry, customs declarations and other ongoing customs activities already opened using the old BIN can be completed normally.
However, the NBR has directed all establishments to complete activities under the old BIN and ensure use of the new BIN by November 30.
The NBR further said that after November 30, the old BIN will automatically become inactive in the Customs ASYCUDA World system. Thereafter, all customs activities related to import-export must be completed using only the new BIN.
The National Board of Revenue has sought cooperation from all concerned to make the revenue administration more modern and effective and to keep the country's economic activities smooth.
