NCP candidate withdraws from father-in-law’s constituency
National Citizen Party candidate Ahmedur Rahman Tanu has announced his withdrawal from the 13th parliamentary election in Narayanganj-5.
Tanu, a central committee member of the party and joint district coordinator, made the announcement through a press release on Sunday night, December 28.
He said everyone in the party had the freedom to express their opinions, but his decision not to contest was final.
In the statement, he said he initially decided to contest the election driven by a sense of responsibility towards the country, faith in democracy and a desire to serve the people. However, considering the current political environment and personal factors, he decided to step back from the race.
He clarified that the decision was personal and political, and not driven by hostility towards any individual or party. He added that he would continue working with the party despite withdrawing from the election.
Tanu was nominated by the NCP for Narayanganj-5 on December 10. Later, BNP nominated Abul Kalam from the same constituency. The two are related as father-in-law and son-in-law.
