NCP joint member secretary Tarek Reza arrested

Police have arrested Tarek Reza, central joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party. He was detained on Sunday evening, May 24, in connection with a case filed by former vice-president of Jhenaidah district Chhatra Dal, Enamul Kabir.

According to police and local sources, Tarek Reza had called an emergency press conference at the 'Family Zone' auditorium adjacent to the stadium in Jhenaidah town on Sunday evening. As soon as he arrived in front of the auditorium around 6:30 pm, a team from Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station arrested him.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman and members of police, plainclothes special teams and various intelligence agencies were present at the scene during the arrest.

The OC said a case was filed on Saturday, May 23, against Tarek Reza and several others on charges of assault, vandalism and threats of murder. Tarek Reza was arrested as an accused named in the case. Police operations are ongoing to arrest other accused.

On Friday, May 22, NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari visited Jhenaidah. After Juma prayers, scuffles, clashes and chasing occurred between local Chhatra Dal and NCP activists. Following the incident, Tarek Reza filed a case against eight local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station. In response, former district Chhatra Dal vice-president Enamul Kabir filed a counter-case on Saturday against Tarek Reza and 22 others.
