NCP receives EC registration certificate for ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has received its registration certificate from the Election Commission, with convener Nahid Islam collecting the document on behalf of the party. The allotted electoral symbol for the party is ‘Shapla Koli’.

Nahid confirmed the development after a meeting with the chief election commissioner at the EC headquarters in Agargaon on Wednesday, December 3.

Welcoming the amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the NCP convener condemned the pressure being exerted to overturn the reform. He said legal petitions were being used to influence the matter and added that the party had urged the EC to fight the issue legally.

Expressing gratitude to the commission, he said the party obtained the symbol after overcoming many hurdles. The NCP will contest the upcoming election with the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol.

Speaking on administrative reshuffles, he said political influence was evident in the transfers of deputy commissioners and superintendents of police, adding that such changes could affect the election. He urged the Election Commission to look into the matter.

Calling for proper public awareness regarding the referendum, Nahid said accurate information must be disseminated to prevent confusion. He also urged the EC to take special measures to curb the spread of misinformation and disinformation during the election.
