Nepal has again been rocked by widespread ‘Gen-Z’ protests, prompting authorities to impose curfews in several districts as tensions escalate.

This is considered the country’s most serious unrest since former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s fall in September.

According to NDTV report on Thursday (November 20), clashes erupted in Bara district between Gen-Z demonstrators and supporters of Oli’s CPN–UML. Authorities banned public gatherings and enforced a curfew until 8.00pm on Thursday to restore order.

Unrest began on Wednesday when rival groups launched separate demonstrations in Simara, quickly leading to confrontations, including scuffles near the local airport.

Police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle said no serious injuries were reported.

Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki urged citizens to remain calm and asked political parties to avoid provocation ahead of the 5 March 2026 national election.

She said law enforcement has been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and ensure political leaders’ safe movement and a fear-free electoral environment.

Karki also met representatives of over 110 political parties, stressing the need for Nepal to move forward under new-generation leadership.
