Nepal floods death toll climbs to 547, over 900 still missing

A heart-wrenching situation has unfolded in Nepal's Rasuwa district following devastating floods, with bodies being recovered every moment. Nepal Police has confirmed that 547 bodies have been recovered from various flood-affected areas, while 1,473 people have been injured.

Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) had reported the recovery of 538 bodies.

Currently, 4,473 police personnel are conducting rescue operations in the flood-hit areas, with army personnel also assisting.

The NDRRMA has reported 977 people still missing, of whom 517 are foreign nationals.

According to the BBC, police and the disaster management authority are providing differing figures for the death toll.

The flash flood suddenly struck Rasuwa on Wednesday morning, causing the Trishuli and Narayani rivers to swell, while the Bhote Koshi river surged dramatically. The water, combined with mud and rocks from landslides cascading down the mountains, swept away everything in its path—houses, bridges, trees, electric poles—completely destroying the infrastructure .

Along with Nepal, China's Tibet Autonomous Region has also suffered extensive damage, with at least 300 people reported missing. China had earlier reported three deaths in Tibet and has not released any further casualty figures. However, the country's Prime Minister has stated that the devastating flood has caused extensive loss of life .
