Following two days of unrest, Nepalese authorities have deployed the army to restore order across the country. Temporary restrictions on movement, public gatherings, rallies, and assemblies have been imposed nationwide, with security forces conducting special operations at various locations.

According to The Himalayan Times, between 10 pm Tuesday and 10 am Wednesday, 27 individuals were arrested in Kathmandu and other regions for involvement in looting, arson, and acts of vandalism. Authorities also recovered approximately NPR 3.73 million in stolen funds.

In a separate operation, security forces seized 31 firearms, including magazines and ammunition — 23 from Kathmandu and 8 from Pokhara.

A statement from the Army’s Public Relations and Information Directorate confirmed that the ban on gatherings and movement will remain effective until 5 pm Wednesday. Starting Thursday at 6 am, a nationwide curfew will be enforced, with adjustments to its duration made based on the evolving security situation.

The army warned that some protestors have engaged in violent acts, including arson, looting, destruction of public and private property, assaults, and even attempts of sexual violence.

Meanwhile, Tribhuvan International Airport announced that all flights will remain suspended until 6 pm Wednesday.
