Nepal’s surprise by defeating Afghanistan in Asian Games

Nepal have shown a big surprise by defeating Afghanistan in cricket at the Asian Games. After keeping control in bowling from the start the team also played calmly in chasing the small target. In the end Nepal lifted the victory by defeating Afghanistan by 5 wickets.

Afghanistan decided to bat first after winning the toss in the match held at Kargai Sports Park on Friday. But they came under pressure from the start due to the controlled bowling of Nepal’s bowlers. Losing wickets at regular intervals Afghanistan scored 102 runs losing 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel took four wickets and Lalit Rajbanshi three for Nepal. Afghanistan’s batters could not build big partnerships in front of their bowling. Faisal Khan Ahmadzai and Najibullah Zadran scored the highest 30 runs for the team. Nangyalai Khan scored 17 runs. Apart from these three no other Afghan batter could score double-digit runs.

Nepal’s start was also not good after going down to chase the target of 103 runs. They lost both openers at the team total of just 12 runs. However, after that Sandeep Jora and captain Rohit Paudel handled the situation. Sandeep Jora scored 34 runs and 33 runs came from Rohit Paudel’s bat. Dipendra Singh Airee added 15 runs.

With their batting the small target did not become difficult any more. Nepal won the match by scoring 103 runs losing 5 wickets in just 17.3 overs. As a result they got a 5-wicket victory against Afghanistan with 16 balls remaining.
