New ad-hoc committee formed for Bangladesh Women's Sports Association, Shukla appointed president

The government has dissolved the existing ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Women's Sports Association and formed a new 29-member ad-hoc committee. Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and sports organiser, has been made president of the new committee.

This information was conveyed in a notification signed by Md Daulatuzzaman Khan, Executive Director of the National Sports Council, on Saturday (July 18) .

The committee has been formed with the approval of the National Sports Council chairman under sections 21 and 14(3) of the National Sports Council Act, 2018. The notification has directed the new ad-hoc committee to complete elections within three months of the issuance of the order and hand over responsibilities to the elected committee.

Professor Dr Ismat Ara Haider, Ayesha Siddika Mani, Additional DIG Atia Husna, Mirza Farzana Rahman Hosna and Advocate Runa Laila have been appointed as vice-presidents of the new committee.

National Sports Award-winning shooter Sharmin Akhter Ratna has been made general secretary. Shooters Sabrina Sultana and Syeda Taslima Akhtar have been appointed joint secretaries. Former player and sports organiser Shakti Rani Mandal has been made treasurer.

The committee also includes National Sports Award-winning judoka Kamrun Nahar Hiru, athlete Farhad Jesmin Lity, former national gymnast Parveen Laila Luci, along with organisers from various sports federations and National Sports Award-winning athletes as members.

Following her appointment as president, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla welcomed the government's decision and said the new ad-hoc committee will make every effort to bring visible, positive and long-term change to Bangladesh's women's sports arena.
