New Delhi seeks a 'stronger' relationship with Dhaka: Randhir Jaiswal
India has expressed its hope to further strengthen the multi-dimensional ties between Dhaka and New Delhi.
At a weekly briefing, foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman immediately after the BNP's victory in the Bangladesh elections' on Friday.
He said that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bangladesh on February 17 and handed over a letter from Narendra Modi to Tarique Rahman.
Jaiswal said, 'The letter reiterates India's commitment to supporting a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh.'
He also mentioned that India wants to further expand and strengthen bilateral relations with Bangladesh based on the warm and historical relations between the two countries.
Jaiswal also spoke about visa procedures between India and Bangladesh in the briefing. He said, "New Delhi will discuss visa-related issues with the Bangladesh government in phases."
