Following Texas, New Mexico has also been hit by unexpected floods. The country’s National Weather Service has declared a state of emergency in multiple regions of the state.

In neighboring Texas, the death toll from the catastrophic floods has risen to 109, with many children among the victims. At least 161 people are still missing, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

The flooding began early on Friday (July 4), when heavy rainfall caused the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, Texas, to suddenly overflow. Kerr County, the hardest-hit area, has reported 87 deaths, including 56 adults and 31 children. Among those killed were 27 students and staff from the Christian Girls’ Summer Camp 'Camp Mystic.' The local sheriff's office has confirmed that the identities of 19 adults and seven children remain unidentified.

Rescue teams are still scouring muddy riverbanks and flooded areas in search of the missing. However, the chances of finding survivors are growing slimmer, as the situation worsens with more rain and thunderstorms expected.

In New Mexico, the southern mountainous region of Ruidoso has been hit hardest by the flash floods. Reports suggest that a father and his two children were swept away by the rising waters, and rescue teams are actively searching for them.

Rescue operations are also underway at Gavilan Trailer Park, where homes have been washed away. Although no injuries or fatalities have been confirmed so far, the local mayor has reported that many people remain missing.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings for other flood-hit regions, as river, creek, and ravine levels continue to rise to dangerously high levels.
