Newborn poisoned in Naogaon, family alleges attempted murder

A one-and-a-half-month-old infant has allegedly been poisoned in an attempted murder in Manda upazila, Naogaon. The incident took place on Sunday morning, May 24, in the Bandipur village of Paranpur union.

The injured baby, Ayesha, is the daughter of Ariful Islam of the same village.

According to family sources, the mother left the baby in a cradle and went to a neighbour's house. She returned after hearing the child cry and picked her up. She noticed a smell of poison and foam coming from the baby's mouth and began screaming. Locals rushed to the spot and confirmed the matter, taking the baby to Manda Upazila Health Complex. When the baby's condition deteriorated, doctors transferred her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khorshed Alam said no complaint has been received yet. Legal action will be taken after investigation upon receiving a complaint.
