Neymar has welcomed the prospect of Philippe Coutinho joining Santos, expressing his excitement at having his longtime friend as a teammate.

The 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder has completed his medical and physical tests ahead of a move to Santos, with the club expected to make the signing official soon.

Neymar was reportedly personally involved in bringing Coutinho to the club.

“Brother, we’re very happy that you’re here. Our team and supporters will embrace you and make you feel at home. Welcome to Santos,” Neymar wrote on social media.

He added in a more emotional message: “My God, if this is a dream, I don’t want to wake up. I’m here to hug you and look after you.”

Coutinho has been out of competitive football for around seven months. His last appearance came for Vasco da Gama against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca on Feb. 14.

A week later, he ended his contract with the Rio de Janeiro club to focus on his mental health. Pressure from Vasco supporters also contributed to the early termination of a deal that had been due to run until the middle of the year.

Coutinho has since maintained his fitness during his time away from competition, continuing ball work and physical training. He is now poised for a return with Santos, where Neymar is eager to see his former Brazil teammate back on the pitch.
