Neymar returns with a bang, scores brace in first match after World Cup

Neymar Jr. made an emphatic return to club football after Brazil's World Cup exit, scoring twice in his first appearance since the tournament.

However, his brilliance was not enough to secure victory as Santos were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Chapecoense in the Brazilian Serie A.

The result earned Santos a valuable point in their battle to steer clear of the relegation zone, with Neymar leading the attack throughout an action-packed contest.

The Brazilian superstar was at the heart of nearly every attacking move, constantly troubling the opposition defence over the full 90 minutes. He registered nine shots, including five on target, with two finding the back of the net.

Neymar also dominated possession, recording 103 touches during the match while orchestrating Santos' attacking play.

Beyond his two goals, the 34-year-old played a key creative role. He completed 48 of his 62 passes, with 45 of those coming in the opposition half, and created two key chances. Despite being fouled four times, he won seven duels and repeatedly helped Santos regain possession through his pressing and defensive work.

The match marked Neymar's first appearance since Brazil's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the five-time world champions were knocked out by Norway. Returning from that disappointment, the forward responded with an influential display, carrying much of Santos' attacking responsibility.

Neymar has now scored six goals and provided two assists in nine Brasileirão Betano matches this season. Across 776 minutes, he has created 19 key passes, attempted 30 shots, and placed 12 efforts on target, underlining his importance to Santos' campaign.
