No evil force will be able to thwart the election: IGP
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam has said that no evil force has the ability to disrupt the upcoming national election. People are election-oriented and that is our biggest strength.
He said this on Saturday afternoon, November 15 at a views-exchange meeting with journalists in Khulna. The meeting was held at the KMP Police Lines in the city. Earlier, he inspected ongoing election training at five locations in Khulna. He also held meetings with officers and forces of different police units working in Khulna division.
At the time, Khulna Range DIG Rezaul Haque, KMP Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haider and officials of various ranks of the police were present with the IGP.
The IGP said that to avoid past criticism regarding police election duties, this time all units are being given special training for the first time.
He said we are determined to move beyond the bitter experiences of the 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections and ensure a neutral, peaceful and festive election.
Regarding sabotage and violence centring the election, the IGP said the police are not alone in tackling terrorist activities, ordinary people of society are our strength. We have kept all rumours, misinformation and activities of banned organisations under surveillance.
Replying to questions about past controversies of the police, he said those who were involved in bias or irregularities and are not reformable will not be assigned election duty. SPs and DIGs are identifying those concerned. Before the election, their names will be listed and they will be excluded from election duty.
Speaking about journalists’ safety and fieldwork environment, the IGP said journalists will not face any obstruction. Rather, we will encourage you so that you can cover the election news freely.
