No other country being inducted into Mecca Pact right now: Pakistan

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has said there is no plan at this moment to include any other country in the Mecca defence pact, and no discussions are underway on the matter.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sajjad Haider said this while responding to journalists' questions at a briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, September 10.

When asked whether other countries would be included in the Mecca defence pact, he said, "Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, which are currently part of this alliance, hold regular meetings and consultations at various levels and maintain constant communication. However, at this moment, there is no proposal under consideration to expand the Mecca Pact or include new countries."

He said the three countries must first further strengthen the existing cooperation and organisational framework under the Mecca defence pact. This could open the path for other countries with similar outlooks and needs to join the alliance in the future.

He also said the next decision on the matter will be taken by the three countries concerned through mutual consultation.

Sajjad Haider further said no discussions are currently underway regarding the inclusion of new countries. Therefore, raising the question of inducting a new country into the alliance at this stage is premature.
