No scope to take sole decision on returning to country: Tarique Rahman

BNP’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman has expressed profound gratitude for the nationwide prayers and well-wishes for his critically ill mother, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
In a statement posted on his personal Facebook account on Saturday (November 29), he said that while he deeply wishes to be by his mother’s side, political realities mean he cannot unilaterally decide to return to Bangladesh.
Tarique Rahman noted that Khaleda Zia remains in a highly critical condition in the CCU of Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital. He thanked people from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, for their prayers and support.
He added that both local and foreign medical teams are providing intensive treatment, and several friendly nations have offered advanced medical assistance.
Referring to his desire to reunite with his ailing mother, Tarique Rahman said the decision to return home is bound by complex political circumstances. He stated that the family remains hopeful that conditions will eventually allow his long-awaited return.
Khaleda Zia, who has long been suffering from multiple chronic health complications, is currently in life-threatening condition.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that her health remains “extremely critical.”
