There is no security risk in Dhaka ahead of the verdict in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina and two others, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner ANM Nazrul Islam.

He spoke to journalists on Monday, November 17.

The Additional Commissioner said that 15,000 police personnel have been deployed across Dhaka ahead of the verdict. “There is no security threat in the capital. Citizens are moving about normally.”

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will announce the verdict today.

Security measures across the capital have been significantly strengthened since this morning. On Monday morning, a large number of army personnel were seen on alert near the main gate of the tribunal adjacent to the High Court. Members of the armed police, RAB, and BGB also remained deployed. Despite the heightened security, office-goers and the general public were seen moving normally. Public transport, metro rail, and private vehicles operated as usual.

Multiple units have been deployed to prevent any sabotage or untoward incident. Since Sunday night, DMP has set up additional checkpoints in different areas of the capital.

To maintain law and order, BGB has been deployed in Dhaka and three other districts—Gopalganj, Faridpur, and Madaripur.
