Nora Fatehi, Bangladesh's Sanjoy to perform at Canada's World Cup opening
After Mexico City, the grand opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup is now set to take place in Canada, another North American co-host. Bollywood sensation Nora Fatehi will be the main attraction at the royal stage of the Toronto Stadium. The ceremony will begin at 11:30 pm Bangladesh time on Friday, June 12, ahead of Canada's opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Before gracing Canada's opening stage, Nora's new FIFA official song 'Sir Sir' has already created a global sensation. The song broke records by surpassing over 20 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release. With this, Nora has broken the record set by Shakira's official World Cup song 'Die Die', which garnered 8.2 million views in its first 24 hours. 'Sir Sir' is now the most-viewed FIFA theme song on its debut day in history.
Behind the song's phenomenal success lies a South Asian connection. Nora has collaborated on the track with French singer Vegedream and Sanjay, a popular California-based Bangladeshi-American music producer and DJ. Nora will perform live with Vegedream and DJ Sanjay at the Toronto ceremony.
Overjoyed by this global achievement, Nora Fatehi said, "This is an incredibly special moment for me. Through this project, I have been able to connect my Moroccan and Canadian roots with the love of the people of India and South Asia. The strong South Asian representation behind the scenes has made our work unique on the world stage. This is an effort to bridge the East and West through music."
Alongside Nora, global stars Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Alyana, Jesse Reyes, Michael Bublé, and William Prince will also perform at the opening ceremony.
