Norway missed a golden opportunity to claw their way back into the match shortly after the interval. Just into the second half, Norway was awarded a penalty in the 50th minute. Jørgen Strand Larsen stepped up to take the spot-kick, but after a slow run-up, his weak effort was comfortably saved by France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

As a result, Norway squandered the chance to reduce the deficit, leaving the scoreline at 3-1. In a bid to strengthen their side, Norway also made two substitutions after the break.

The first half of the match completely belonged to Ousmane Dembélé. The French winger netted a hat-trick within just 32 minutes, setting the record for the second-fastest hat-trick in World Cup history. Meanwhile, Thelo Aasgaard had pulled one back for Norway in the 21st minute, which remains their only success in the match so far.
