Nothing to lose against Brazil: Haiti coach

Haiti head coach Sébastien Migné has said his side have “nothing to lose and everything to gain” as they prepare to face five-time world champions Brazil in their second World Cup Group C match.

Haiti, returning to the World Cup for the first time since 1974, began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Scotland. John McGinn’s first-half strike proved decisive, although Haiti came close to equalising late on when F. Pierrot’s header in the 85th minute narrowly missed the target.

Speaking ahead of the Brazil clash, Migné acknowledged the scale of the challenge but stressed his team’s fighting spirit.

“We will have to run even more than we did against Scotland,” he said at a press conference. “In a match like this, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

He added that reaching the World Cup after a 52-year absence already represents a major achievement for the nation, and the focus now is on making supporters proud against elite opposition.

“We are fortunate to be here. I hope we can make the people of Haiti proud,” he said.
