Nvidia's new AI PC 'RTX Spark' arriving in October

Nvidia has announced that Lenovo and Acer will launch the first Windows PCs powered by its RTX Spark chip in October, as the chip giant pushes to bring AI capabilities directly to laptops and desktop computers.

The RTX Spark is a "superchip" that combines a Blackwell graphics processor with a Grace central processor, developed in collaboration with MediaTek . The chip was unveiled in June as part of a partnership with Microsoft to "reinvent the PC" for the AI era after three years of collaboration between the companies .

According to Nvidia, the RTX Spark delivers 1 petaflop of AI performance and supports up to 128GB of unified memory, enabling users to run large language models with 120 billion parameters locally on their devices . The chip features a 20-core Arm CPU and a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, with performance comparable to an RTX 5070-class desktop graphics card .

Nvidia claims the chip can handle AAA games at 1440p and over 100 frames per second, edit 12K 4:2:2 video, and render 3D scenes exceeding 90GB—all while running on battery power . Adobe is reportedly rebuilding Photoshop and Premiere's core rendering engines from scratch for this chip, targeting up to 2x faster performance .

The RTX Spark is designed to support AI agents that can work alongside users, with Nvidia and Microsoft building a new security stack that includes Windows security primitives and Nvidia's OpenShell runtime to ensure agents run safely and under user control . Two third-party agents, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw, are already adopting the stack for new Windows apps .

Tech giants are increasingly pushing for on-device AI to cut the cost of cloud-based services, while improving privacy and responsiveness by processing tasks locally . However, analysts remain cautious about widespread adoption due to high costs and unclear practical benefits for average consumers .

Besides Lenovo and Acer, other major manufacturers including Asus, Dell, HP, MSI and Microsoft Surface are planning to release RTX Spark devices by the end of the year . Eight devices are already confirmed for this fall, including the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra, Dell XPS 16 Creator Edition and Asus ProArt P14 and P16 . Nvidia says more than 30 laptops and around 10 desktops are in the pipeline across various manufacturers.
