Barrister Omar Sadat has been elected president and Shamsul Arefin secretary general of the 'Law and Order Coordination Council' (LOCC) for the 2026-2028 term at its annual general meeting (AGM) held in Gulshan.

The new committee was elected unanimously at the meeting held at the LOCC office in Gulshan police station on Saturday (August 1).

The platform, operated under the joint initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan societies, and Gulshan Youth Club, had DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton as chief guest. DMP Commissioner Mokhles Islam and RAJUK Chairman Engineer Riazul Islam were present as special guests.

Speakers at the meeting said LOCC has been playing a vital role in improving the law and order situation in the Gulshan police station area since its inception. The organisation is working to make the area safer and more disciplined through the coordinated participation of police, city corporation, local societies and residents. Efforts to make Gulshan a 'zero crime' model area through modern CCTV surveillance, community policing and crime prevention activities were also highlighted.

Newly elected President Barrister Omar Sadat said the integrated partnership between government agencies, law enforcement agencies and civil society is LOCC's core strength. Over the next two years, he said, efforts will be made to make Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas safer, technology-driven and more disciplined with everyone's involvement.

Senior officials from DMP and RAJUK, representatives of various societies and leaders of Gulshan Youth Club were present. At the end of the meeting, attendees expressed hope that LOCC's activities would be further energised and congratulated the newly elected committee.
