One killed in gun, bomb attack at BNP office in Khulna
A man was killed and two others injured in a gun and bomb attack on a BNP party office near the KUET IT Gate in Khulna on Sunday night, November 2, around 10 pm.
The deceased was Imdadul Islam (40), a teacher at a local educational institution. The injured were identified as Mamun Sheikh (45), Organising Secretary of the Joiyopole Union BNP and a Union Parishad member, and Mizanur Rahman (38). Both were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
According to police, Mamun Sheikh was holding a meeting with party members when masked assailants on motorbikes threw two bombs and fired four rounds of bullets at the office. Imdadul Islam was killed on the spot. The attackers fled immediately after the assault.
Police from Khan Jahan Ali Police Station arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control, and recovered two unexploded bombs and several bullet casings.
Kazi Mizanur Rahman, President of the Khan Jahan Ali Thana BNP, claimed that the attack was targeted at Mamun Sheikh, who is currently receiving treatment. “We demand a proper investigation into the incident,” he added.
Officer-in-Charge Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed that the area has been placed under tight police surveillance to prevent further violence. He said, “A drive is underway to identify and apprehend those involved. The attack has caused panic across the KUET Road and adjoining areas.”
