One killed in mob beating in Nabinagar, 4 detained
A man named Shahed Ali, 55, was killed in a mob beating in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria.
Police detained four people in connection with the incident on Sunday.
The deceased, Shahed Ali, was the son of Millat Ali of Sementaghar village in Bidyakut Union. He was beaten to death on suspicion of theft late Saturday night in Konur village under Kaitala North Union.
According to police and local sources, a theft occurred at the house of Mohammad Ali, also known as Lebu Mia, in Konur village on Saturday night. Shahed Ali allegedly entered the house by breaking in, and family members caught him in the act. After they raised an alarm shouting “thief”, local residents gathered at the scene. He was severely beaten and died on the spot due to his injuries.
Police from Nabinagar Police Station later recovered the body from the scene.
Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam said the body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital morgue for autopsy. Four people have been detained in connection with the incident, and legal action will be taken after interrogation.
