Order issued to stop filming in Uttara residential area, artists protest
The Residential Area Welfare Association of Uttara Sector-4 has issued an order to halt all drama and movie shootings in three shooting houses located in the residential area, citing public inconvenience during shooting.
In a letter dated July 20 and signed by the association’s president and general secretary, the residents expressed concerns that increased shooting activities have caused crowding and congestion, disrupting their daily lives.
The letter also stated that commercial activities like filming in residential areas violate local policies and urged house owners not to rent their properties for shooting purposes.
Following the directive, prominent figures from the entertainment industry have voiced their opposition. Rashed Mamun Apu, General Secretary of the Actors’ Association, and producer Topu Khan condemned the order in media statements, calling it “baseless and unacceptable.”
Shahiduzzaman Selim, president of the Directors’ Guild, described the decision as “hasty” and harmful to the theatre and film community.
Aslam Hossain, owner of one of the shooting houses, Laboni Shooting House, said this is the first time in 25 years that they have faced such a complaint.
Several celebrities have also protested the order on social media, drawing attention from the concerned authorities and urging them to find a resolution.
